So it happened, I finally played Magic The Gathering outside of the glorious master race that is PC. Normally I play the PC game on steam and have a blast playing those. I was always weary about playing on a table since there is so much to keep track of. Where as the PC game keeps track of that stuff for you; takes some of the stress out of playing. It lets you focus on the cards and strategy and not worry about counters and life. So when the invite came through I jumped at the chance, hoping my skills acquired digitally would transfer to the physical.
When we started we were in talks of trades for cards, everyone brought out so many cards. Binders full of them even, it was a lot of stuff to take in. I felt a kin to a kindergartner playing chess against a master. There was so much I just sat there in awe of the volume they all had. I only had a few, still a decent number mind you but not near the levels that they had. I had two decks made for the game night, a red/white deck and a white/blue. I personally prefer those colors as white is the color of order, protection, light, law. Red is the color of freedom, fire, and impulse. Finally Blue is the color of knowledge, manipulation, wind, and wave. The cards for each color reflect those ideals, and I like what those represent.
I wont go into crazy detail of the games but I will say this the games scored like this, Allen 2 Wins, Colton 2 Wins, and Mark 0 Wins (sorry man). But Josh what about you did you win anything? Well glad you asked. I actually won the last game we played. I decided to use my white/blue since that one did well during an earlier play. I am not sure how I pulled it off especially given Mark had an overwhelming number of creatures out on the field. I guess I should thank Colton for having most of his stuff tapped before my turn. I was able to pull out a victory in the final seconds, which was a great feeling to end on a high note. I am definitely looking forward to tweaking my decks and playing again in the future.
